Our History
The Grand Casino is located in the Scenic Hotel Southern Cross, a Heritage 1 status building in central Dunedin. Originally named the Grand Hotel, the building was built in 1883 by Italian architect Louis Boldini.
The interior finishing showcases the Victorian taste in classical architecture when money was no object, oozing richness and opulence.
The original mosaic floor of the foyer is still present on the ground floor entrance and the magical dome roof at the top of the grand spiral stairs case is also original. The building contains some of the finest ornate plasterwork in Dunedin. The Gainsborough room, once a grand ballroom is now home to the Grand Casino's world-class gaming tables.
Gaming facilities at the Grand Casino include 180 electronic gaming machines. Our on-site restaurant, the Grand Bar and Restaurant, operates full service from 12pm daily including a bar area serving local and international beverages. We provide foreign exchange services (fees excluded).
